What a wee hidden gem The Spindle is! Beautiful location and a warm welcome from host John. Spotless room, lovely breakfast and a fab host with lots of added extras like delicious home baking. Couldn’t recommend a stay here enough and we will certainly return.

John is so welcoming, as are his three 'ladies' in the front garden. The location is perfect -- right on the beautiful and quiet Kinnessburn, away from the crowds, but just a short walk into the heart of St. Andrews.

Tips:

So much to do and see in St. Andrews. No need for a car, all is within walking distance -- golf, the castle, the pier, several beaches, churches, museums, shops, and fantastic restaurants. St. Andrews has it all.

3rd June 2018:

We stayed 2 nights here and it was delightful. Located almost in the centre of St Andrews town it is walking distance to shops, pubs and the cathedral ruins. It sits overlooking a small burn with ducks, birds singing and no car noise. John, our host, has lived his whole life in this quaint old house, and is now taking in guests in 2 rooms. He prepares a great breakfast, cooked to order, along with yoghurt, cereals, juice etc. It is a bit hard to find if you are using sat nav as there is no direct street frontage. Follow Johns directions. Loved our stay here. Plenty of nearby parking. Wish it was for longer and we would be very happy to come back again.

Tips:

There is a path outside the house that follows the burn down to the old harbour, and then to the cathedral & castle ruins.

Fantastic two night stay. The location is perfect and the b&b was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed (i.e iron, hairdryer etc). Refreshments in room much appreciated, especially the homemade shortbread. There was a good choice at breakfast and it was cooked to perfection. John is a great host and was the perfect balance of friendly yet discreet. Will definitely be back.

Tips:

Ideally located only a 5 minute walk from the centre of town.

29th June 2017:

The Spindle is a lovely, welcoming B and B in a very special location. Our room was comfortable and we liked the fact that we had our own little bathroom rather than an en suite - much quieter and more private . The garden was lovely and the little stream outside with the ducks was so pretty. John is very warm and welcoming and our breakfasts were spot on - delicious and filling without being too much. This was our second stay at the Spindle and I'm sure that it won't be our last.

Tips:

The Spindle is in a very pretty location, with a lovely garden and a little stream complete with ducks outside. It is far enough away from the busy centre of St Andrews to be peaceful and quiet but close enough to walk to the many shops and restaurants there. There are a number of good bookshops, most notably Topping and co. as well as good places to eat, especially the Seafood Ristorante.

A real home from home with two ground floor bedrooms kept spotlessly clean. Breakfast in the dining room overlooking the delightful front garden is another highlight of our stay. Our host was John Angus who we now consider a friend based on three stays at "The Spindle" over the last 12 months.

John is a lovely person to chat with and a wonderful guesthouse host. The accommodations are located in a charming home along a lovely little waterway, complete with ducks. Although the home is just down the hill from town (a five minute walk), it is a quiet and quaint neighborhood. Breakfast is wonderful and includes eggs prepared from his own chickens! We truly enjoyed our stay here!

Conveniently located in easy walking distance to everything in St. Andrews, including the golf course.

6th December 2015:

This pretty, homely guest house is very well placed, near the centre of St Andrews. The house and garden overlook the Kinnessburn. (Remember to close the gate to keep the chickens in.) The proprietor is friendly and charming, and was born in this house, so his local knowledge is excellent. My room was comfortable and atttractive. A well-prepared breakfast in the pretty room overlooking the garden provided a good start to each day.

Tips:

Walks: From the front gate, you can set off on a number of lovely walks, along to East Sands; to the historic cathedral and university: in the other direction to the botanic garden; or just to explore the town centre. There are numerous pubs and restaurants. The West Port bar and kitchen in South Street is smarter that it sounds, and I had a good meal there.

My daughter, dog Toby and I really enjoyed our stay at The Spindle B&B. John was extremely welcoming and helpful - even dog-sitting for us so we could go to the Open Day talks and out for tea. The room is lovely and peaceful and the location is good being convenient for the town too. Last but not least, the breakfast was delicious and kept us going all the way home! We would definitely like to return sometime.

Tips:

Apparently Little Italy is a good place to eat but was fully booked a few days before. John recommended the Dolls House and gave us a map with a 20% off voucher. We had a lovely meal there. West Sands was perfect for walking our dog.

My husband and I have just returned from an overnight stay at The Spindle Bed and Breakfast Hotel in St Andrews, Fife. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and heartily recommend The Spindle. Our room was warm, comfortable and beautifully presented. We had the full Scottish Breakfast which was delicious and really enjoyed our toast and other trimmings. John Angus was genial, hospitable and ensured that we had everything we needed - and more! Free wifi was an additional bonus. Do not hesitate to visit The Spindle- you will not be disappointed.

Tips:

The centre of St Andrews is like a living museum with lots of interesting ancient buildings to visit and lots of delightful restaurants to welcome the weary traveller. St Salvator's Quad is impressive and we enjoyed walking along the East Sands. The small Catholic Church of St James is beautiful.

18th November 2014:

This is a delightful B&B overlooking the Kinness Burn, centrally located for walking to all the main attractions in St Andrews. It benefits from its quiet setting away from main roads. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean, the breakfast choice is extensive and the host is very welcoming - everything that is required of an excellent B&B.

Tips:

The Spindle is by the Kinness Burn but this lovely location does mean that the first part of the shortest walking route into the town centre is quite steeply uphill which might not suit everybody. There are other, slightly longer but less steep walking routes available. St Andrews is full - some would say too full - of restaurants and eateries catering for all tastes and budgets. The university population brings a vibrancy to the town. And it is, of course, somewhere every golf enthusiast has to visit.
